The Cape has entered winter with cold, wet, and windy conditions, and another powerful weather system is expected to drop temperatures further in the coming days. Snow may fall over high-lying areas and mountains, possibly even on Table Mountain.

According to the reliable WindGuru predictor, a strong cold front will bring heavy rainfall starting Thursday, with showers likely to continue through Sunday.

Plunging temperatures on Sunday will likely grab the attention of Cape Town residents, with early morning lows expected in the single digits and daytime highs unlikely to exceed 12°C.

There is some snow predicted across the high-lying areas and mountain passes of most provinces between Thursday and Monday, but it’s really the Western Cape peaks that could get quite a heavy dusting of snow.

Table Mountain set for some snow?

Interestingly, light snowfall could fall on the iconic Table Mountain on Sunday, although it’s expected to be minimal if it does occur.

Gauteng may also see light snow, especially on Monday, as temperatures drop to the low single digits in the early hours.
