City Power Johannesburg has cut power in eight areas on Wednesday, 20 August 2025, to carry out maintenance on its electricity network.

AREAS AFFECTED BY THE POWER OUTAGE

These are the areas that will be affected by the power outage:

  • All Gold

  • Safa House
  • Soccer City 1, 2, 3 and 4
  • Framton East

  • Crownwood

HERE’S HOW TO KEEP APPLIANCES SAFE DURING A POWER OUTAGE

  1. UNPLUG APPLIANCES:

Energized advises switching off all televisions, computers, game consoles, fans, lights, and other small appliances to protect them. Leaving them on could cause damage when the power is restored.

  • USE SURGE PROTECTORS

Surge protectors safeguard electronics like computers and televisions by blocking excess power when electricity is restored. The advantage of these devices is that they can be replaced every 3–5 years once their limited lifespan ends.

  • UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLIES

Uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) help provide backup power during an outage. This helps with minimising the risk of data loss and safely shuts down devices, according to Tech.

  • USE GENERATORS SAFELY

Jasonwrightelectric warns that generators can be dangerous if used incorrectly. They should always be operated outdoors, at least 20 feet away from homes, doors, and windows. It’s also important to use heavy-duty, outdoor-rated extension cords that are in good condition.
