City Power Johannesburg will cut electricity to eight suburbs on Thursday, 31 July 2025, and Tuesday, 5 August 2025, to carry out routine maintenance.

“The interruption is necessary to do maintenance work on our network, which is part of our programme of constantly striving to provide a better service,” mentioned City Power.

Customers are urged to always treat their supply points as live, as the power supply may be restored at any time.

SUBURBS AFFECTED BY THE POWER OUTAGE

City Power will cut electricity at Olivedale Substation on Thursday, 31 July 2025, from 9:00 to 17:00, affecting Johannesburg North, Noordhang, and Jukskei Park.

At Longmeadow Switching Station, the power outage will take place on Tuesday, 5 August 2025, from 9:00 to 17:00, impacting Longmeadow Business Park North, East, South, West, and Ayrshire Street.

ESKOM’S GENERATION FLEET SHOWS SIGNIFICANT IMPROVEMENT, REACHING ABOVE 70% EAF

Eskom has improved its power generation, with eight out of its fourteen power stations now operating at Energy Availability Factors (EAF) of 71%.

“This metric does not include the additional 720 MW contribution from Kusile Unit 6, which has been assisting the national grid since 23 March 2025.”

“While Kusile Unit 6 has not yet entered commercial operation, it is anticipated to do so after September 2025, at which point it will formally further enhance Eskom’s overall EAF,” mentioned Eskom.

The generation recovery plan has one power station operating at 91.1% while three other stations are performing above 60%.

The power utility cited the decrease in unplanned outages, which has reached 8 888 MW, as a contributing factor to the generation fleet.

In other news, two undocumented suspects were found with suspected stolen electrical cables.

Members of the Gauteng Traffic Police and the Gauteng Traffic Wardens Infrastructure Unit apprehended the two suspects on Tuesday, 29 July 2025.

They allegedly stole the cables along the N3 Van Buuren On-Ramp.

The stolen cables were immediately recovered.
