King Misuzulu reacts to court ruling against his recognition

Zulu nation was rocked by news of the Pretoria High Court declaring King Misuzulu’s recognition by President Cyril Ramaphosa as invalid.

On Monday, Zulu nation was rocked by news of the Pretoria High Court declaring King Misuzulu’s recognition by President Cyril Ramaphosa as invalid, and set aside his appointment.

In a statement issued by Misuzulu’s spokesperson Prince Afrika Zulu, the royal family has not yet decided on a course of action, such as taking the case up on appeal, as it stand the family say they are still studying the judgement.

“His Majesty, together with his legal team and the senior members of the Zulu Royal Family are still studying the judgement and applying their minds as to correct cause of action” says Prince Afrika.

In his Judge Norman Davis has ordered that President Cyril Ramaphosa appoint an investigative team to investigate allegations of the Kings nomination was not done in accordance to customary law.

“It is declared that the recognition by the first respondent of the second respondent as Isilo of the Zulu nation as contained in Government Gazette no. 46057 of 17 March 2022 (the recognition decision) was unlawful and invalid and the recognition decision is hereby set aside”, says declared Davis.

PRESIDENT CYRIL RAMAPHOSA UNFAZED

Commenting on the matter while attending the inaugural Presidential Science, Technology & Innovation Plenary, President Cyril Ramaphosa is unfazed by the judgement.

“As far as I am concerned, there is no real calamity. Also in the way the judgement has come across is a matter that we are going to discuss and find solutions for and it should truely lead to no crisis. It is a matter that is clearly straight forward and can be dealt with” says Ramaphosa.

Judge Davis, also made is clear that his ruling was not about whether or not King Misuzulu is the rightful heir.
