Mkhwanazi outlines three-step strategy to fight crime
KZN Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi outlined three essential measures to cut crime.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, unveiled a three-step plan to protect communities and lower crime rates.
He shared the details at a Stakeholders’ Engagement Session hosted by the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government on Tuesday night, 19 August.
The event aimed to strengthen partnerships and unite stakeholders to tackle crime, address safety challenges, and develop sustainable solutions.
MKHWANAZI SHARES THREE-STEP PLAN
During his briefing, Mkhwanazi explained that police officers are tasked with three key responsibilities. Firstly, they must ensure that crime is reduced, which means fewer cases being reported. However, he emphasised that any failure to register legitimate cases would constitute grounds for dismissal.
Secondly, he emphasised that police stations must keep clean audits and be accountable for every cent they receive.
Thirdly, Mkhwanazi highlighted the importance of community satisfaction, requiring police officers to conduct monthly engagement sessions and provide regular updates on policing matters.
TEAMWORK IS NEEDED
Meanwhile, Premier Ntuli called on the business sector to work with law enforcement to combat crime. He stressed the value of modern technology, including drones and CCTV cameras, in deterring criminal activity and enhancing provincial safety.
The Premier also emphasized that tackling broader civic issues is key to reducing crime and encouraged businesses to partner with law enforcement to create safer operating environments.
“If we work together, we can change this province. I believe that everything starts with conversation. When the conversation is honest, it becomes easier to confront the challenges we face,” Ntuli said.
He added that lasting change is only possible when all stakeholders unite behind a common goal.
