Overall, more than 20 rainfall RECORDS were broken in one day across the three provinces of South Africa.

MORE THAN 20 RAINFALL RECORD BROKEN IN ONE DAY

According to VoxWeather, a total of 22 rainfall records were broken in one day across the Western, Northern, and Eastern Cape.

This comes after SEVERE weather conditions wreaked havoc the past weekend.

Extreme weather conditions caused DESTRUCTION in the Western Cape.

THE RAINFALL RECORDS WERE BROKEN ACROSS THREE PROVINCES

Social media users posted photos and videos of the damage and destruction.

The SA Weather Services (SAWS) issued a level 9 weather warning for disruptive rain for Saturday and Sunday.

The severe storms in several provinces over the weekend have impacted people in different ways.

THE SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS WREAKED HAVOC

Large parts of the Western Cape were hit by heavy downpours and gale-force winds that led to severe flooding and road closures.

Some people were stranded, road were closed, mudslides were reported, damages to properties were reported and people and animals had to be evacuated.

The SAWS warned over the weekend that excessive rainfall exceeding 100mm and winds of 60-80km/h were expected.

The public, marine users and small stock farmers were advised by the SAWS that disruptive rain, damaging winds, damaging waves, severe storms, and very cold temperatures were possible from Sunday evening into Tuesday over the Eastern Cape, with light snow possible over the high peaks of the north-eastern mountains.
