NGIZWE MCHUNU CLAIMS MALEMA WANTED HIM TO CAMPAIGN FOR THE EFF

Mchunu was addressing the media at a press conference at Kwa Maimai in Johannesburg on Tuesday, 9 January, when he said that his feud with Malema started when he rejected the EFF leader’s request to campaign for the party in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).

“Julius Malema called me into their offices where we had a private meeting. In that meeting, Julius lobbied me to join the EFF and in return he promised me the premier candidate position in KwaZulu Natal,” Mchunu said.

The controversial media personality claimed that Malema told him that Mongezi Thwala, who is the chairperson of the EFF in KZN, was “toothless” and will not bring him the numbers he is aiming for in the province.

“I told him that I couldn’t accept his proposal upfront as I had to consult with Amabhinca Nation. That infuriated him because I asked him to host Amabhinca in Seshego but he refused,” Mchunu claimed.

‘I AM NOT A TRIBALIST’

Last month, Mchunu dared Malema to come to KZN, telling him that he runs the province. Mchunu was referring to the upcoming EFF manifesto scheduled for 10 February this year at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

“I heard you are coming to KwaZulu-Natal, I’m in charge here. I’m the border gate.

“Why don’t you host your party’s manifesto in your backyard in Seshego? So that your ancestors can support you? You are a leader who can’t speak isiZulu, the only language you know is English. You address our Zulu people in English, what [kind of] a leader are you?”

Malema hit back during the EFF press conference in Durban on Friday, 5 January.

“They told me he is an artist or something. I don’t care what he thinks of me. He is the smallest boy ever. But even if I see him tomorrow, I will embrace him like any other African kid. I have no problem with him whatsoever.”

This was weeks after Mchunu lost his car sponsorship with JAC Motors following complaints by the political party over what they referred to as “tribalist” comments.

Mchunu responded to Malema, rubbishing claims he is a tribalist.

“I will say this again, my remarks were not meant for the Limpopo people. They were directed at Julius Malema. I was angered by Julius Malema who wanted to use me to get more votes in KZN. I will never be used by a dictator, I am against dictatorship and I will never allow anyone to use me and my people for their personal gains.”
