The impending deadline for NSFAS 2024 applications on 31 January heightens the urgency for applicants to complete the process before the portal closes.

As of last week, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) reported an impressive 1 545 822 applications for the upcoming 2024 academic year, with expectations of more submissions before the application cycle concludes on 31 January.

Blade Nzimande, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation, addressed the media, reassuring about the Department’s readiness for the 2024 PSET academic year opening. He announced that the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has provisionally funded 657 703 applicants through NSFAS.

Minister Nzimande emphasised the crucial need for all NSFAS applicants to submit a consent form. This form plays a vital role in verifying information from third parties and ensuring compliance with legislative requirements.

“The information is required to verify the employment status and income level of the parents, guardians, or spouses of the applicant. It is mandatory for applicants to download and upload a completed Consent form on the NSFAS website, portal, or mobile app.

“The SARS (South African Revenue Service) Consent Form requirements affect students in the application data category. These students should await communication from NSFAS through SMS and email, providing instructions on how to upload the form.”

OVER 1.5 MILLION APPLICATIONS SURGE

Last week’s report highlighted the substantial number of applications received, standing at an impressive 1 545 822. It underscores the significance of timely submissions as the deadline approaches.

The South African Social Security Agency’s provisional funding supports 657 703 NSFAS applicants. It enhances the 2024 academic year application process.
