In a concerted effort to support tertiary education, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has successfully disbursed funds for both University and TVET college students for the 2024 academic cycle.

This milestone was achieved by processing valid registration records received by 15 March, for TVET colleges and 19 March for universities.

MONTHLY ALLOWANCE PAYMENT DATES

NSFAS underscores the significance of adherence to monthly payment dates.

“NSFAS would like to remind all institutions that the monthly payment date for TVET college allowances is the 25th of every month, and for universities it is the 30th of every month,” said NSFAS.

Furthermore, institutions are urged to submit registration data in a timely manner to ensure inclusion in the payment initiation process.

In the current payment cycle, NSFAS allocated a total of R2 306 583 222.00 for University allowances. Additionally, this amount is distributed across various categories, including tuition, allowances via universities, and direct payments to students.

Moreover, the loading of registration data for the 2024 academic year has commenced, with institutions urged to promptly submit data upon confirmation of funding and student registration. Additionally, this submission is crucial for NSFAS to process payments accurately for tuition and allowances, with subsequent disbursements contingent upon successful data processing.

NSFAS FACES HURDLES IN RECEIVING REGISTRATION DATA FROM KEY INSTITUTIONS

Despite efforts, NSFAS encountered challenges in receiving registration data from certain institutions, notably the University of Fort Hare and the University of Stellenbosch, at the time of generating the payment file.

Unfortunately, registration data received after this stage did not form part of the April payment file, affecting several institutions.

These include:

  • University of Venda
  • University of Mpumalanga
  • University of Limpopo
  • University of the Witwatersrand
  • Sol Plaatje University
  • Durban University of Technology
  • North-West University
  • Vaal University of Technology
  • University of Stellenbosch
  • Mangosuthu University of Technology
  • University of the Western Cape
  • Tshwane University of Technology
