Panyaza Lesufi rates Gauteng Education MEC 3 out of 10

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi expressed his disappointment at the province’s 85% matric pass rate and has slammed Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane for his failure to perform.

Lesufi was speaking in Midrand over the weekend, where he handed over Gauteng City Region Academy bursaries to the top three learners in every township school in the province.

My performance contract with you doesn’t speak about 85%. My performance contract with you speaks about 90% and you have not achieved 90%. So out of the ten points I have to give for performance, on this one, I’m going to politely allocate only 3 out of 10.”

“It’s an indication that you must work hard. It’s an indication that things can happen if we really put our resources, our energies when they need to happen.”

GAUTENG’S TOP PERFORMING DISTRICTS

Lesufi has promised to give all district directors who have achieved above 90% their performance bonuses with immediate effect.

Two of the provinces 15 districts were able to obtain 90% and above. Johannesburg West achieved 92,5% while Tshwane South obtained 90,4%.

The top three performing districts which remained unchanged from 2022 in the province were:

  1. Johannesburg West
  2. Tshwane South
  3. Gauteng North
