Stats SA shows that SA is experiencing a payday boom with a hike in average salaries. Here are the highest paying jobs.

Stats SA’s latest data shows that South Africa is experiencing a payday boom, with the highest paying jobs offering average monthly salary in the range of R26 000 in the formal, non-agricultural sector.

During the last quarter, the total employee earnings in salaries saw a substantial 5.4% increase, totaling R42.9 billion from June 2022 to June 2023, according to Business Tech.

Additionally, Stats SA reported a 2.6% rise in regular salary and wages paid to employees, climbing from R738.5 billion in March 2023 to R19.3 billion in the quarter ending June 2023.

PAYDAY:HERE ARE THE HIGHEST PAYING JOBS

1. A Petroleum Engineer

For their payday,Petroleum engineers bank an annual salary of approximately R1 129 021. They create methods for extracting oil and gas from beneath the Earth’s surface, with an average monthly income of R94 085.

2. Medical Doctor/Surgeon

A medical doctor in South Africa earns an annual salary of R720 003, making medicine one of the country’s most financially rewarding fields. Specialising in a specific branch, like neurosurgery or pediatrics, can lead to even higher earnings.

3. Actuarial Scientist

An actuarial scientist in South Africa earns an annual salary of approximately R706 602. Actuarial science involves using mathematical and statistical methods to evaluate financial risks in insurance and finance.

4.Judge

The typical annual salary for a judge in SA is R622 474.A judge is a government official with the power to listen to, decide, and oversee legal cases brought before a court. In South Africa, there are various types of judges serving at different levels and roles.

5. Plant Manager

A plant manager is responsible for supervising daily plant operations, including production, compliance with policies, and more. These experienced individuals earn an average annual salary of R563,488

SECTORS THAT PAY MORE THAN AVERAGE

Notably, among the 90 jobs surveyed, 46 pay above the national average. The top-paying job averages R67 169 monthly and falls under financial intermediation in the business services sector.

Other well-paying jobs include those in electricity, gas, steam, water supply, and IT-related activities.
