The latest petrol and diesel price projections suggest South Africans can expect mixed news at the pumps in early August.

If market conditions stay the same over the next couple of weeks, the petrol price is expected to drop, while the diesel price could rise and put more pressure on motorists’ wallets.

Below are the latest projections, as provided to The South African by the Central Energy Fund (CEF), effective Monday, 21 July.

FUELPRICE CHANGE
Petrol 93decrease of 28 cents
Petrol 95decrease of 24 cents
Diesel 0.05%increase of 66 cents
Diesel 0.005%increase of 65 cents
Illuminating Paraffinincrease of 30 cents

If market conditions stay stable for the rest of the month, which is unlikely given the fluctuating rand/dollar exchange rate and shifting oil prices, motorists using 93 octane petrol can expect a 28-cent decrease, while those using 95 octane may see a 24-cent drop.

Meanwhile, diesel motorists would see something between a 65 and 66 cents per litre increase.

Finally, illuminating paraffin is expected to rise by 30 cents in price.
