They’ve been praying for rain. And on Wednesday, rain showered down on the capital city of the Northern Cape, South Africa. According to local, Santie Viljoen, Kimberley received over 60mm of rainfall in a period of 30 to 45 minutes.

The cloud burst was so intense, that those living just 6km away – where less rainfall was experienced – at first questioned the authenticity of a photo uploaded by Storm Report SA. The picture, by Hennie Pitout, showed cars submerged by water, just outside Protea Hotel’s entrance.

“Is this real?”, “Fake photo”, “that picture is b*llsh*t” and several other comments ‘flooded’ social media…  before enough people in the city, who experienced the sudden downpour, were able to report back with photos and videos proving it had indeed happened! See below…
