King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla, along with Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell, stonemason Richard Bossons, and residents of York attended the unveiling ceremony of the statue commemorating the late Queen Elizabeth II.

QUEEN ELIZABETH II STATUE

The striking sculpture, designed and carved by talented stonemason Richard Bossons, stands tall and proud at over six and a half feet. It also weighs a remarkable 4,000 pounds reports Citizen Tribune. Originally planned to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the statue has taken on an even more poignant significance after her passing. King Charles III, accompanied by Queen Consort Camilla, expressed deep emotion during his speech.

REIGN OF THE MONARCH

The stunning French limestone sculpture captures Her Majesty in her Garter robes, adorned with the George IV State Diadem. She is also holding the orb and sceptre, symbolic of her role as head of church and state. This depiction showcases the monarch’s regal presence and unwavering dedication to her duties for seven decades.

The statue is strategically placed outside York Minster, the grandest Gothic cathedral in Britain, and will oversee the soon-to-be-named Queen Elizabeth Square. Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell emphasized this ‘unique occasion’ that pays homage to Queen Elizabeth.

HER LATE MAJESTY

The monument, crafted from 800 kilos of clay, depicts Queen Elizabeth in her prime. It symbolises her indomitable spirit and the hope she brought to the nation during her reign. The statue’s pedestal bears an inscription commemorating ‘Her late Majesty’. It was unveiled by King Charles III, representing the continuity of the monarchy.

As the nation mourns the loss of Queen Elizabeth II, these powerful and evocative tributes will forever stand as reminders of her extraordinary life of service. She devoted herself to service and the indelible mark she left on the British monarchy and the world will be remembered forever.
