The story of Nomia Rosemary Ndlovu – the Johannesburg police officer turned serial killer – has been cast in the spotlight with a gripping true-crime Shomax series.

Rosemary’s Hitlist – a four-part documentary about the woman described as a “modern-day Daisy De Melker.”

The Tembisa South policeman was responsible for the bizarre deaths of six family members – including her partner Maurice Mabaso – on whom she had placed multiple fraudulent life insurance policies.

SHOWMAX DOCCIE SHINES LIGHT ON ROSEMARY NDLOVU

In 2021, Rosemary Ndlovu was sentenced to six concurrent life terms for the murders of Mabasa and five of her family members. This included her sister, two nephews, a niece, and a cousin.

Ndlovu was also sentenced to an additional 30 years for fraud and incitement to commit murder. Additionally, Rosemary was convicted of the attempted murder of her mother, Maria Mushwana, her sister Joyce, and Joyce’s five children.

Handing down the judgment, Judge Ramarumo Monama compared Ndlovu to the 1932 murder case of Daisy de Melker, saying South Africa hadn’t seen anything else similar in the last 89 years.

Rosemary’s Hitlist is produced by IdeaCandy, who brought true-crime sensation Devilsdorp – about the Krugersdorp murders – to Showmax in 2021.

FOUR BOMBSHELLS FROM EPISODE ONE

The first episode of Rosemary’s Hitlist kicked this week, screening new episodes every Wednesday. Here are four unbelievable bombshells from the first episode.

Stole guns from work, police incompetency

Rosemary Ndlovu worked at the Tembisa South police station, where she allegedly stole multiple firearms, including a R5 rifle and pistol.

If stealing firearms was not bad enough, she was also accused of exploiting authority to access firearms, dockets, and loopholes in the system.

One of the investigating officers in the murder of her partner Maurice Mabaso was accused of being “incompetent” by the community. He also found no foul play in multiple life insurances, approving a large payout to Rosemary.

Previous murder attempts, hiring hitmen

According to a landlord, Rosemary previously attempted to put a hit on her lover Maurice weeks before he was found dead.

In addition to setting their rented home alight, she placed several containers filled with petrol under his bed. Maurice managed to escape before the house exploded.

According to one policeman who worked at the same station, Rosemary asked him if he knew where to find an inkabi (hitman). Weeks later, her partner was found dead.

Gruesome death of her partner

According to forensic psychologists, Maurice Mabaso died a brutal death on 15 October 2015.

The cause of death was blunt force injuries to the head and torso.

Injuries included:

  • 76 stab wounds to his face, neck, and body
  • Intracranial hemorrhages
  • Lung collapse and disembowelment

The psychologist said: “You could see his flesh. He was hacked. You could see the person who killed him was extremely angry towards him.”

“One or two of these stab wounds was sufficient to cause his death. There were 76”.

16 Life policies

Rosemary Ndlovu placed not one but sixteen fraudulent life policies on her partner’s life – without his knowledge. She listed herself as the beneficiary of all the policies.

According to insurance analysts, the woman found loopholes in the sector, forging signatures and impersonating her partner.

She also ensured his policies were fully paid mere weeks before his death. Rosemary was paid almost half a million before an investigating officer halted additional payouts.

An investigating officer said: “That was an investment to her. She knew she was going to get the money back.”
