The South African Security Agency (SASSA) has made the application process easier for first-time applicants.

If you are applying for your SASSA disability grant for the first time, applications must go with a medical assessment appointment.

A medical assessment confirms temporary or permanent disability.

A SASSA disability grant is for anyone who is physically and permanently disabled for a period of 6 months or more.

If you are not receiving any other social grants and you are not being cared for in a facility or state institution, you may apply for your disability grant according to their website.

All applicants must submit a medical assessment, which states their physical condition.

The medical assessment needs to be booked with a Goverment institution, usually the one closest to where the applicant resides.

DISABILITY GRANTS: WHAT MORE TO KNOW

Disability grant applicants may be assessed again if their income no longer passes the means test, or when the status of their disability has changed to include sustainable self-support.

Applicants are also notified and their status checked to ensure that they remain compliant with grant requirements.
