SASSA issues fresh warning to August 2025 grant recipients
SASSA urges August 2025 grant recipients to stay alert for scams and ensure their account details are up to date.

SASSA grant recipients can expect their August 2025 payouts in just two weeks, but the agency has issued a warning on social media urging all beneficiaries, regardless of their grant type, to watch out for scams.
Following the announcement of a fourth payment date for clients under review, scammers have launched several new schemes targeting recipients.
One of the latest frauds, called Ubuntu Life, unlawfully uses SASSA’s name and logo to trick beneficiaries into paying fees for a fake service.
SASSA GRANT RECIPIENTS IN AUGUST 2025
As the South African Social Security Agency has warned before, it will never ask SASSA grant recipients in August 2025 to pay a fee for anything. Likewise, it outsources no such work to third-party companies. SASSA manages over 19 million core grants every month, handling billions of rands each year.
As a result, fraudsters constantly devise new schemes to swindle vulnerable beneficiaries out of their limited welfare payments. Despite this, SASSA has firmly disassociated itself from Ubuntu Life, stating there is “no affiliation or endorsement by the agency in any capacity,” according to The Citizen.
TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS
As the year progresses, SASSA is urging August 2025 grant recipients to update their personal information.
According to The South African, the agency is tightening its identity and income verification checks and has introduced a fourth monthly payment date to process accounts under review. Since May 2025, SASSA has sent SMSes to over 250,000 beneficiaries requesting updated information. However, nearly 150,000 messages failed to reach recipients because many had not informed SASSA of changes to their contact details. The previous three-month review notice period no longer seems to apply.
UPDATE YOUR PROFILE TO CONFIRM PAYMENT
Therefore, SASSA CEO Themba Matlou, urges SASSA grant recipients in August 2025 to keep their details up to date to receive social welfare payments safely and securely. Also, try and visit your payment point the day after the release date of payment to avoid crowds.
Likewise, if your social welfare grant is paid via personal banking, ensure you bank card and account remains active to avoid any disruption. If you suspect foul play, contact SASSA toll-free on 0800 60 10 11 or email GrantEnquiries@sassa.gov.za. The agency says it has a legal team taking action against all unlawful use of its brand to keep social grant beneficiaries safe.
