SASSA: Postbank promises glitch-free payments THIS WEEK

Postbank says it has successfully switch to new system and SASSA beneficiaries can expect to receive their grants without any problems

This week, social grant beneficiaries will be preparing themselves to receive their monthly grants, however memories of last months tragic technical glitch by Postbank still lingers fresh in their minds.

BENEFICARIES EXPECTED TO RECEIVE MONEY HASSLE-FREE

In a meeting with the South African Human Rights Commission, Postbank has reassured grant beneficiaries that the problems faced with payment in September will not happen this month.

Last month, beneficiaries were unable to access all or part of their funds for over a week due to Postbank switching payment systems. This left hundred thousands of the elderly and disability grant beneficiaries in dire situations.

Angry family members and citizens took to social media to reveal how, the elderly, many of whom borrowed transport money to reach the payout point were left stranded in retail stores and towns far from where they live.

POSTBANK ASSURES SAHRC

In a statement the Commission says that Postbank promised to keep a close eye on the upcoming payment week.

“The Bank assured the SAHRC that they did not expect any issues with the October 2023 payment cycle, but nonetheless had taken precautionary measures through their service vendors, to have technicians on standby and ensure a quick response time should any problems be experienced” says Commission spokesperson Wisani Baloyi.

Post Bank indicated that they had assisted all of their clients who were unable to access their funds during the relevant days; and that the almost 500 000 affected beneficiaries had since the 10 September gained access to their funds.

OCTOBER PAYMENT DATES

Older persons and their associated grants will be paid first on Tuesday, 3 October followed by disability grants and child grants on the dates as below:

  • Older Persons/ Pensioners Grant: Tuesday, 3 October
  • Disability Grant: Wednesday, 4 October
  • All other Grants: Thursday, 5 October
