Senzo Meyiwa murder accused slapped with a 10-year sentence

Senzo Meyiwa murder accused, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in a separate matter.

Senzo Meyiwa murder accused, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in a separate matter. He appeared before the Tembisa Magistrate’s court earlier this week.

In 2022, Sibiya was nabbed and charged with drug dealings and possession of illegal ammunition.

SENZO MEYIWA MURDER ACCUSED SLAPPED WITH A 10-YEAR SENTENCE

The court convicted Sibiya of drug possession but acquitted him of drug dealing charges in his December court appearance. However, the courts gave a guilty verdict for possession of illegal ammunition.

Defence lawyer Morgan Masegela requested the court to be lenient in its judgement, but prosecutor Xolani Khumalo revealed that he displayed no remorse throughout the trial.

The court revealed that a five-year direct imprisonment was for drug possession. The other five-year term was for illegal possession of a firearm. Both sentences will run concurrently with the current 12-year sentence.

He has shown a desire to appeal. Meanwhile, he is due back at the Pretoria High Court on Monday for the Meyiwa trial.

OTHER COURT RULINGS

Sibiya is not a first-time offender. He has appeared before the courts on several charges, including attempted murder. The Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court passed down a 12-year imprisonment sentence for Sibiya in 2022 for attempted murder.

The National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa confirmed the court ruling through the media.

In 2014, Sibiya reportedly attempted to shoot his then-girlfriend. The incident happened after she threatened to blow the whistle on him for his involvement in the murder of Bafana Bafana, goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.
