SITA wage dispute: Minister intervenes amid strike threats

Minister Mondli Gungubele mediates ongoing wage dispute between SITA and PSA in the State’s technology agency.

The Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Mondli Gungubele, has stepped in as a mediator in the ongoing wage negotiations deadlock between the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) and its workforce represented by the Public Servants Association (PSA).

DEPARTMENT MONITORS THE DEVELOPMENTS

In response to the escalating situation, the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies has been closely monitoring the developments.

“The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies has been alerted by SITA of the deadlock with negotiations and the subsequent protest action.  The department acknowledges the rights of employees to embark on such action,” the Minister said on Tuesday.

Minister Gungubele has addressed the situation, clarifying that while calls have been made for his direct intervention, the department must respect the autonomy of SITA and the PSA in resolving their employment-related concerns.

However, he encourages both parties to expedite the negotiation process to prevent potential disruptions to service delivery.

SITA ASSURES CONTINGENCY PLANS AMID THREAT OF STRIKE

Assurances have been provided by SITA that contingency plans are in place to safeguard critical agency operations against any adverse effects stemming from the strike. This commitment should provide some relief to government agencies and the public who rely on SITA’s digital services.
