With less than a week to go, the latest data warns South African motorists to brace for bad news.

Earlier this month, vehicle owners enjoyed a significant drop in both petrol and diesel prices.

But that changed drastically after Israel attacked Iran, causing Brent crude oil prices to soar and the rand to weaken.

Now, the outlook for diesel prices looks especially bleak, and petrol vehicle owners can also expect a nasty surprise at the pumps next week.

Since a ceasefire was agree, the picture has improved, but not in time to save a spike in fuel prices at the pumps next week.

Below, the latest projections as received by The South African website from the Central Energy Fund (CEF), effective Wednesday, 25 June.

FUELPRICE CHANGE
Petrol 93increase of 52 cents
Petrol 95increase of 55 cents
Diesel 0.05%increase of 82 cents
Diesel 0.005%increase of 84 cents
Illuminating Paraffinincrease of 68 cents

If market conditions stayed consistent for the rest of the month, though that’s unlikely given the volatile rand/dollar exchange rate and shifting oil prices, petrol 93 octane motorists would face a 52-cent increase, while 95 users would see a 55-cent hike.

Meanwhile, diesel motorists would see something between a 82 and 84 cents per litre increase.

Finally, illuminating paraffin is expected to rise by 68 cents in price.

FUEL PRICE IN SOUTH AFRICA IMPACTED BY TWO MAIN FACTORS:

1. The international price of petroleum products, driven mainly by oil prices

2. The rand/dollar exchange rate used in the purchase of these products

Oil price

At the time of publishing the brent crude oil price is $67.84 a barrel.

Exchange rate

At the time of publishing the rand/dollar exchange rate is R17.64/$.

The final overall price changes for both petrol and diesel will be confirmed early next month with the new prices taking effect at midnight on Tuesday, 1 July 2025.

Go easy on the accelerator until then, Mzansi.
