The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) has begun its annual maintenance shutdown of the cableway today, Monday, 28 July, and will keep it closed until Sunday, 3 August 2025.

TMACC plans to resume operations on Monday, 4 August, depending on weather conditions.

The yearly shutdown forms part of regular maintenance to ensure the cable car system remains safe and reliable.

Annual maintenance underway

“During the shutdown, all Cableway facilities, including the Top and Lower Stations, restrooms, restaurants, and shops will be closed.” TMACC said on its website.

This includes VIEWS by De Grendel, TEN67 Eatery, KLOUD Bar, TAP Bar, the Shop at the Top, other retail outlets and all ablution facilities.

Despite the closure, Table Mountain will remain accessible to hikers, with most trails and walkways staying open.

TMACC has advised hikers to plan their trips carefully, as the cable car won’t be available for descent during the maintenance period.

Since weather conditions can shift rapidly, visitors should come fully prepared for a complete hike and keep an eye on forecasts.

The company also announced on Facebook that South African citizens with July or August birthdays can still claim their free birthday return tickets during their birth month, but only outside the maintenance shutdown period.
