Table Mountain Cableway shuts down – What hikers need to know
As the Table Mountain Cableway undergoes official maintenance closure, hikers have received warnings about activities on the mountain.

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway (TMACC) officially closed on 28 July for its annual maintenance and will reopen on Monday, 4 August 2025.
TMACC announced on its website that while the cableway remains closed, visitors can still hike up the mountain, but issued a warning to hikers.
“While the Cableway might not be operational during this period, Table Mountain will remain open for hikers, walkers, and cyclists.” TMACC said.
Safety tips
“With the cable cars being out of commission, hikers and trail runners need to plan for a return hike.” TMACC added.
The cableway company also highlighted a few safety tips if visitors do plan to visit the mountain during the closure:
- Plan ahead: Know your route, tell someone your plans, and start early to avoid being out after dark.
- Weather awareness: Conditions can change rapidly. Check the weather and be ready for sudden changes. Dress for all conditions and carry a space blanket for extra safety.
- Carry essentials: water, snacks, sunscreen, power bank, and a space blanket.
- Stay on marked paths.
- Save emergency contact numbers on your phone.
- Make sure your phone is fully charged before you hike.
