Eskom, the electricity supplier in South Africa, has issued a notice to residents in Tshwane regarding an upcoming electricity supply interruption.

The interruption is scheduled to facilitate essential maintenance on the distribution network, ensuring the reliability and safety of the power supply.

AFFECTED AREAS

The outage, slated for Wednesday, 17 April, will impact customers in specific areas of Ga-Rankuwa, including Zones 4, 5, 16, 23, 24, and 25 Kgabalatsane, as well as Makau and parts of block 2 and 7. It will commence at 9:15 in the morning and is expected to last until 17:00 in the evening.

In light of the outage, Eskom advises customers to exercise caution with electrical appliances, treating them as live at all times during the interruption.

The utility extends its appreciation to customers for their cooperation and apologises for any inconvenience caused by the maintenance.

In a separate development, the City of Tshwane has taken legal action against two residents in Garsfontein for illegal electricity reconnection. This action follows the disconnection of the property during the Tshwane Ya Tima operation on 8 April due to non-payment of municipal services, including electricity, amounting to nearly R300 000.

City records indicate that the last payment from the household dates back to 2020, highlighting the severity of the issue. The city underscores the importance of timely payments for consumed services, emphasising the collective responsibility of citizens. The arrest of the property occupants ensued following a tip-off from a vigilant resident who reported the illegal connection to authorities.

The City of Tshwane expresses gratitude to the proactive residents, stressing the significance of community involvement in combating crime and illegal activities.

“I would like to thank the residents who raised the alarm. We need active citizenship to fight crime and all forms of illegal connections,” stated Cllr Jacqui Uys, MMC for Finance.

The City remains committed to upholding the law and ensuring fair and transparent access to essential services for all residents.
