Tshwane schedules 8-hour power cuts across multiple areas
The City of Tshwane announced an 8-hour emergency power cut while technicians perform essential maintenance at the Kentron Substation

The City of Tshwane’s Energy and Electricity Business Unit confirmed that urgent maintenance at the Kentron Substation in Centurion started today, 19 August, and will continue until Thursday, 21 August, running daily from 8:00 to 16:00.
The municipality said the work is part of a necessary upgrade.
“Parts of the substation will be switched off to allow technicians to transfer power load from the substation’s old 11KV board to the newly constructed 11KV board,” the city said.
Areas affected by the power outage
The city will carry out power outages in phases, affecting specific areas on different days. Highveld will experience outages today, followed by Highveld and Irene on 20 August.
On 21 August, the planned outage will include Telkom’s Head Office in Highveld. The City of Tshwane urged residents and businesses to prepare accordingly.
“Customers are advised to treat all electricity supply points as live at all times,” the city noted.
Businesses in the affected areas are expected to feel the impact, particularly during working hours when reliance on electricity is at its highest.
City Issues Apology for Inconvenience
While acknowledging the inconvenience caused, the City of Tshwane maintained that the scheduled outage is unavoidable.
“The City of Tshwane apologises profusely for the inconvenience that may be caused as a result of the mentioned work,” the municipality stated.
