On Monday the Gauteng Department of Education began the placement process for grade one and eight learners for 2024.

The process however can be confusing for some parents as it may be their first time going through the departments online application process.

Parents of prospective grade one and eight learners for 2024 will receive an SMS from the department regarding their application for their child.

If a placement offer is made, a parent should accept the offer within seven days. They should do this by logging into the website. They could either accept the offer as final and their child is placed at the school, or they can provisionally accept an offer from a school while they wait for more offers from other schools

If the SMS a parent receives notifies them that their child has been placed at a particular school, it means the child only qualifies for placement in one of the school applied for and has been automatically placed.

“As placement offers are received, schools reach capacity and applicants who do no accept an offer in time are transferred to schools with available space”, the department says.
