US gives priority refugee status to 1 000 Afrikaners
The US is set to resettle around 1 000 Afrikaner South Africans after President Trump banned refugees from other countries.

The US administration, led by President Donald Trump, plans to welcome 1 000 Afrikaner “refugees” this year through its resettlement programme.
This follows the approval of asylum for two groups of white South Africans who cited “fear of persecution” and “racial discrimination” in their home country.
Earlier this year, in a controversial decision, Trump also indefinitely stopped refugee admissions from other nations.
US TO RESETTLE 1000 AFRIKANER REFUGEES
According to the Washington Post, US authorities have pledged to resettle around 1000 Afrikaner “refugees” in the coming months.
The group will be prioritised above any other countries that have applied for the US Refugee Admissions Programme (USRAP)
The resettlement process is expected to run until the end of September.
WHY NOT OTHER COUNTRIES?
The publication reports that the Trump administration will also block 160 refugees who were set to travel to the US before the February ban took effect.
In addition, authorities had already vetted another 1,200 refugees and booked their flights to arrive after the ban was implemented.
International Refugee Assistance Project attorney Melissa Keaney commented on the administration’s actions.
“It simply doesn’t want to process any other refugee populations other than white Afrikaners”.
The US administration, under President Donald Trump, is expected to welcome 1000 Afrikaner “refugees” this year as part of its resettlement programme.
This comes after two groups of white South Africans were granted asylum in America over their “fear of persecution” and claims of “racial discrimination” in the country.
Meanwhile, in a controversial move, Trump has indefinitely halted refugees from other countries earlier this year.
