Here’s the weather outlook for South Africa’s nine provinces.
The South African Weather Service has warned that a heatwave, with persistently high temperatures expected until Wednesday, will result in very uncomfortable conditions in parts of South Africa. A Yellow Level 2 warning has also been issued for severe thunderstorms forecast to batter seven provinces.
SEVERE WEATHER ALERTS
IMPACT-BASED WARNINGS
A. Yellow Level 2 Warning: Severe Thunderstorms resulting in heavy downpours leading to localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges, large amounts of small hail, strong damaging winds, and excessive lightning, are expected over the western and central parts of Limpopo, as well as the northern Highveld and escarpment of Mpumalanga.
B. Yellow Level 1 Warning: Severe Thunderstorms resulting in localised flooding of low-lying areas, damage to property and disruption to power supply and or communication, are expected in places over Inxuba Yethemba and Enoch Mgijima Local Municipalities of the Eastern Cape.
FIRE DANGER WARNINGS
Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the northern parts of the Northern Cape and Lekwa-Teemane Local Municipality of the North West.
ADVISORIES
1. A Heat Wave with persistently high temperatures is expected in places over Chris Hani, Joe Gqabi and northern parts of Alfred Nzo Districts Municipalities in the Eastern Cape, until Wednesday (04/02/2026).
2. Hot and humid weather will result in very uncomfortable conditions over the north-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
3. Very hot to extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions are expected in places over the Nama-Khoi Local Municipality in the Northern Cape, as well as the Beaufort West Local Municipality in the Western Cape.

Gauteng
Gauteng can expect partly cloudy and warm with isolated afternoon thundershowers.

Mpumalanga
Mpumalanga, the Place of the Rising Sun, can expect morning fog in places, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers, except in the Lowveld.
Limpopo
In Limpopo, morning fog in places in the south, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers, except in the Lowveld.
North West
North West, known as Bokone Bophirima in Setswana, can expect fine and hot to very hot, becoming partly cloudy, with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers, except the extreme south-west.
Free State
In Free State, fine and hot to very hot, becoming partly cloudy with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers in the east and along the Lesotho border
Northern Cape
The day will start with fine over the interior in the morning, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot but very hot in places in the north. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected in the south, but in the evening in the extreme north-west. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh southerly to south-easterly.
Western Cape
Cloudy with light rain over the southern parts, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot but very hot in the north-eastern parts where isolated showers and thundershowers are expected from the afternoon. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to south-easterly, but fresh along the west coast.

Eastern Cape
The Western half: Partly cloudy and warm with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers over the interior. It will become cloudy along the coast with evening rain and drizzle. The wind along the coast will be moderate easterly to south-easterly.
The Eastern half: The day will start partly cloudy and warm with scattered afternoon showers and thundershowers over the interior. It will become cloudy along the coast with evening rain and drizzle. The wind along the coast will be moderate easterly to south-easterly.
KwaZulu-Natal
Morning fog in places over the interior, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in the west and southern parts. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate easterly to north-easterly, becoming fresh north of Durban in the afternoon.
