The City of Cape Town has offered up a massive reward for anyone with information that may have information regarding the murder of Law Enforcement Advancement (LEAP) Officer, Zamikhaya Kwinana earlier this month.

The City has offered an unprecedented R1,35million for the information, a significant increase from the previously offered maximum of R250 000.

Zamikhaya Kwinana sustained a bullet shot to the head while sitting on the back seat of a vehicle patrolling around Nyanga township, when the vehicle came under fire, during the recently concluded violent taxi strike in Cape Town

When his colleagues realised he had been hit, they sped off to Heideveld Day Hospital, but the officer was declared deceased on arrival.

BENEFACTORS WITH DEEP POCKETS

City of Cape Town MMC for Safety and Security JP Smith confirmed that the money was not all out of the City’s purse.

“In a remarkable display of solidarity with our officers, several benefactors approached the City requesting to pledge additional amounts to the reward already offered. This has permitted us to increase the reward to an unprecedented amount not previously possible” says Smith.

Smith added that the money will be offered to the individual that offers up information that directly leads to the identification, arrest, and conviction of those responsible for Kwinana’s murder.

“The City calls on anyone with information related to this attack to please report it to the City’s toll-free tip-off line so that the criminals can be arrested” Smith says.
