DStv Premiership result: Orlando Pirates held by ‘bogey’ team Cape Town Spurs

Orlando Pirates were denied maximum points by struggling Cape Town Spurs as the teams played to a 1-1 draw in their DStv Premiership clash at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday, 6 March.

Relebohile Mofokeng opened the scoring as early as the 12th minute for the Buccaneers, but Spurs came back stronger in the second half and equalised through Michael Kwamagi.

The result moved Orlando Pirates to 30 points after 19 games while Spurs are now two points behind 15th-placed Richards Bay FC.

Orlando Pirates went into the encounter as heavy favourites given Spurs’ well-documented woes, but they had to be cautious.

And that’s because Spurs shocked them in the first round.

Scoring first appeared to help calm their nerves.

However, Spurs were not willing to surrender and they showed a great deal of intent in the second half as they took the game to their more illustrious opponents.

They were duly rewarded for their attacking game in the last 15 minutes of the match – and that’s how it ended.
