Mickeyla Daniels, tha aunt of Joshlin Smith – and sister of the child’s mother Kelly – has publicly vowed to find her. This, after Daniels claimed her sibling confessed to allegedly selling her daughter for R10 000.

Daniels – a policewoman – shared the news in a Facebook Live with Patriotic leader Gayton McKenzie last week.

On Wednesday, 6 March, authorities confirmed that four adults were being questioned in the disappearance of the six-year-old. Police also claim that arrests are “imminent.”

Joshlin disappeared from her home in Diazville, Saldanha Bay on 19 February. At the time, she was under the care of her mother’s partner, Jacquin Appollis, also known as Boeta.

In a Facebook post, Mickeyla Daniels shared a touching tribute to her niece, Joshlin Smith.

She captioned a video montage of the child: “We will get you. You never deserved what happened”.

According to eNCA and veteran journalist Annika Larsen, three people will appear in the Vredenburg Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Larsen tweeted: “These are suspects. They will only be formally charged and appear on Thursday. Due process must be followed, and all have a right to a fair trial”.

According to a police statement, the Western Cape Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General TE Patekile, and the MEC for Police Oversight and Community Safety, Reagen Allen, will attend the court appearance.

During the Facebook Live last week, Gayton McKenzie addressed allegations made by Kelly’s sister Mickeyla Daniels. According to Daniels, Kelly confessed that someone was interested in buying Joshlin Smith for R10 000.

Daniels told Gayton during the Live that Kelly had told her on a phone call: “My child is in the squatter camp. Someone wanted to buy her, but Saldanha was ‘too heated.’ Those were her exact words to me.

“I feel Kelly knows where he child is. Why is she not looking for her child with the community?”

Mickeyla claimed that her sister “changed her stories” thereafter.

Responding, Kelly told Gayton that she had shared with her sister that –  as a mother – she believed her child was alive and perhaps in a squatter camp.

She added: “You are a liar and making me look bad for something I don’t know.”
