Monday, 14 August was the seven-year anniversary of South Africa’s Wayde van Niekerk’s world record-breaking run in the men’s 400m at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Running out of Lane 8, Van Niekerk stopped the clock in a time of 43.03 to claim the gold medal ahead of Grenada’s Kirani James and American LaShawn Merritt.

Seven years later that time still stands as the quickest ever 1-lap time recorded.
