Hero’s welcome for Bafana Bafana?

South African X users have called on everyone to unite to give Bafana Bafana a hero’s welcome following their AFCON performance.

On Wednesday 7 February this week, emotions ran high as Bafana Bafana faced off with Nigeria’s Super Eagles at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) semifinal. While the team gave it their all, ultimately, the game was lost to Nigeria who used the penalty round to their advantage.

While many have expressed disappointment at South Africa’s loss — especially to Nigeria — tons of people have expressed how proud they are of the national team.

In fact, a number of X users have called on locals to unite in order to give the team a hero’s welcome when they land back in SA.

The past few weeks have been pretty exciting thanks to the country’s national football team.

Week after week, they proved to have the necessary skills after playing their way to the AFCON semifinal which took place on Wednesday this week.

While the team displayed true bravado on the field, they finally lost to Nigeria after a nerve-wracking penalty shootout.

Their loss came as a huge disappointment to football fans who were looking forward to defeating the West African side.


Despite this, many have shared how proud they are of the team and are calling on locals to unite to welcome the team home – heroes style.

“South Africa, let’s give Bafana a hero’s welcome. They did exceptionally well,” an X user wrote.

Many in the comment section agreed wholeheartedly.
