Thabo Mabaso retired a long time ago and he headed to social media to praise Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos and Mamelodi Sundowns on how they saved Safa from embarrassment.

The former AmaZulu midfielder believes Broos saved the embattled football governing body, Safa at the Afcon tournament by using Sundowns players.

Mabaso argues that the work laid by Sundowns in development structures helped Bafana as they managed to rescue Safa from a huge embarrassment.

This comes as Bafana reached the semi-finals of the Afcon tournament with the help of Sundowns, but the ex-pro states that Safa is saved from embarrassment because of neglecting football development.

Masandawana, Sundowns boast 11 players in coach Broos’ squad, and seven of them started the games for Bafana at the ongoing biennial Afcon showpiece.

Based in Soweto, Mabaso adds that Sundowns implemented a proper structure that benefitted Bafana as well as Broos while saving Safa from embarrassment.

“Thank you Sundowns for implementing proper structures at Chloorkop and saving the mother body (Safa) from embarrassment, without your work, we wouldn’t have reached this stage of the competition,” Mabaso posted on social media about Sundowns, Safa, and Broos.

“Another shortcut from mother body exposed! I still maintain as long as kids are still neglected, we are going nowhere fast 25 years without football glory but the abundance of talent because development from an early age is neglected.

“Thanks, Makgopa (Evidence) and Yaya (Sphephelo Sithole) and their respective teams. Football teams are built not cut and paste.

“The only team that masters cut and paste is Real Madrid and they have been doing it for centuries. Let’s start from under 6 to identify players, groom and build them, and mold them to be a team.

“Let’s see more of juniors structured football (leagues), properly organised leagues for juniors, and more coaching education for the less fortunate and underprivileged.

While some fans were unhappy with Broos selecting more Sundowns players compared to other DStv Premiership clubs, the ex-Usuthu star believes otherwise – he comments on how Safa was saved from embarrassment.

This also comes as Kaizer Chiefs players were overlooked by Broos but they still defied the odds and nearly made it to the final.

“Clever decision Mr. Broos to save face by taking the whole Sundowns 11 or else you were going to take the blame for the mess created by the mother-body, my opinion,” added Mabaso about how Broos and Sundowns saved Safa from embarrassment.
