Hugo Broos: ‘Bafana’s support comes with results’

Hugo Broos said it has been a long time since Bafana Bafana reached the Afcon sem-finals but says the boys are motivated.

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos says the team is motivated to go further having eliminated Morocco from the African Cup of Nations.

Broos’s men are looking to emulate the class of 1996 by winning the 2023 Afcon.

Having beaten the Atlas Lions 2-0 midweek, Bafana now turns their attention to Cape Verde in the quarter-finals on Saturday evening.

Broos said it has been a long time since South Africa reached the sem-finals and believes the boys are motivated to go further in the tournament.

“I always said [support] comes with results, once you have results, the rest will come, so I think we can say now we have good results,” Broos told the media.

“Secondly it’s certainly a motivation for all my players, that it’s been so long since South Africa played the semi-final or final], so that motivates us to do as good as the guys of ’96.

“So it’s normal when you’re a sportsman you want to do great things and I know my players will do that thirdly if you saw the reaction in the dressing room after the game against Morocco, you can be sure they are motivated to do something special,” he said.

Should Bafana beat Cape Verde, they will face Nigeria in the semis.
