Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has revealed that he almost resigned from his position after his team suffered a crushing 5-0 defeat against France in a friendly match in March 2022.

Following the loss, there were calls from South African soccer fans for Broos to step down immediately. However, despite the pressure, Broos persisted.

“I thought about it [quitting] because after the game against Morocco away [a 2-1 Afcon qualifying defeat] I went home for five weeks and spoke to my former assistant coach in Belgium,” Broos was quoted on TimesLive.

“We spoke about what we were going to do, but I didn’t want to quit.

“There was something that said to me, ‘Go now when everything is negative and there is nothing good’, but there was a voice that said, ‘Go on’.
