Juan de Jongh lands new coaching job

It has been confirmed that retired Springbok star, Juan de Jongh will continue his rugby journey as a coach at Western Province.

The Stormers announced last week that former Springbok, Juan de Jongh had decided to hang up his boots, bringing an end to his 14-year professional career.

Head coach John Dobson confirmed to News24 that the former centre will work as a coach for WP’s pathway teams and players at the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport.

GIVING BACK TO HIS PROVINCE

Dobson expressed excitement about De Jongh’s transition to coaching, emphasising his positive, energised, and professional approach.

“We’re very pleased that there is an opportunity for him to stay in the system and move into coaching,” Dobson told News24.

“In some ways we would have wanted the romantic finish with him on the field, but it was not to be.

“He’s going to make an impact beyond just playing now both in the media and his coaching. He’s always positive, energised and professional and completely understands who we’re playing for. He has a great connection with the people and the fans.

“He’s going to be missed, but we’re thrilled we’re keeping him here and I have no doubt he will have a huge role to play in inspiring the next generation of Stormers.”

De Jongh reached his Stormers century in his second stint in Cape Town, while he also played over 70 games for Western Province, having made his Super Rugby debut in 2010.

He made his Test debut in 2010 against Wales and went on to make 19 appearances for the Springboks, with his last Test coming in 2016 against New Zealand.
