Moroka Swallows boss Steve Komphela vows to pile pressure on Mamelodi Sundowns as far as the log table is concerned.

After sitting at the second spot on the DStv Premiership log table for a few hours, Moroka Swallows coach Steve Komphela vows to pile pressure on Mamelodi Sundowns.

The former Sundowns mentor, Komphela was speaking after their draw against Chippa United on Wednesday before the second-placed Golden Arrows faced Sekhukhune United.

Despite vowing to pile pressure on Sundowns, Komphela believes the gap between his side and Sundowns is huge.

KOMPHELA VOWS TO PILE PRESSURE ON SUNDOWNS

Looking at the current log table, Swallows have amassed 14 points after eight matches compared to Sundowns but the Brazilians have 24 at the top.

“Position two, the [gap from] Sundowns is too big — [they are on] 24 points, and we are on 14, and both teams are on eight matches. It’s quite big,” Komphela said per TimesLIVE.

“Even though we know Mamelodi Sundowns has raised the bar by so many levels, I think we should try to put them under pressure, make the league more competitive.”

The seasoned former Arrows and Free State Stars mentor, Komphela expressed delight in as far as their progress is concerned so far.

“They must feel the pressure. They can’t be on cruise mode for too long, we will stay there. Obviously, Golden Arrows still have to honour their fixture to make eight, and we will see what happens from there,” he added.

“But am I happy? Not entirely, but one has to be grateful for whatever you receive. I wish we could have added three points, and it was possible.”

The Dube Birds will return to action against Masandawana on October 29 and the clash is slated for Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
