Orlando Pirates defender Bongani Sam has been left in limbo after his loan move to Moroka Swallows fell apart.

Sam was among the players that Swallows dismissed over the fixture cancellation debacle.

ORLANDO PIRATES DEFENDER LEFT HANGING BY MOROKA SWALLOWS

Swallows have been slammed for unprofessional conduct but several players are still in tough spots.

Sam at least still has a contract with Orlando Pirates.

Orlando Pirates are currently investigating whether the player can turn out for his parent club this season.

There is a belief that such a move could land Orlando Pirates in trouble with both the PSL and FIFA.

Pirates officials believe that Swallows behaved improperly and were not in a position to terminate the loan agreement.

“It was very unfortunate that he found himself in that situation (at Swallows). Maybe he could have been one of the players to come back to the team but you know he was on loan from Orlando Pirates and his situation was different because it had to involve another team,” a source told Soccer Laduma.

“From what I know he is not at Swallows and he is not at Pirates. I really don’t know what will happen between now and the end of the season because the only team he can go to is Pirates at the moment and he is not there.”

NO RETURN TO MAYFAIR YET

Sam has yet to return to Mayfair following his release.

Pirates hope that they can get clarity soon.

“He has not been at Pirates yet.

“Yes, he belongs to Pirates and he should go back there but I think there are other issues which need to be sorted out first.

“It is sad that he is finding himself in this situation as a player when things were going very well for him at Pirates,” a second source told Soccer Laduma.

“But hopefully he will rejoin his team before the end of the season because he belongs there.”

Sam’s last match was Swallows goalless draw with Royal AM on 23 December 2023. He played 89 minutes.
