Pitso Mosimane: “Europe is not ready for an African coach”

Pitso Mosimane is one of Africa’s most decorated coaches but has never had the opportunity to coach in Europe.

Pitso Mosimane has expressed his fruatration of the lack of African coaches in Europe.

The 59-year-old coach is one of Africa’s most decorated coaches but has never had the opportunity to coach in Europe. He is currently the head coach for United Arab Emirates club Al Wahda having joined them earlier this year.

PITSO MOSIMANE SAYS HE IS READY TO COACH IN EUROPE

Speaking to AD Sports, Mosimane said Europe was not ready to hire an African coach.

“Football is not about where you come from but we have to tell the truth and look at the way it is and its effect,” Mosimane told AD Sports.

“We can run around and we can escape and make excuses but Europe simply does not employ African coaches,” he said.

After seven successful years with Mamelodi Sundowns, Mosimane left the Pretora club to join Egyptian Giants Al Ahly. With the Red Devils, he won two CAF Champions League.

“My job is to build the trust and legacy of African coaches and make them say ‘Look, I think there’s something in Africa’, give them a chance.

“Europe is not ready to accept an African coach yet. They come to Africa to buy players to help them win the Champions League,” Mosimane added.

The former Bafana Bafana coach said Europe have to change their mentality with Africa.
