A powerful businessman has been linked with a full takeover of Kaizer Chiefs according to the latest reports.

This is not just any businessman, however, but one of the board member at Chiefs in Dr Mike Nkuna

Chiefs have been under the majority ownership of the Motaung family since the inception of the club in 1970. Coming from America with a new sense of fashion and swagger, Kaizer Motaung Snr combined with others to start the club. They would latter be nicknamed the Glamour Boys because of that sense of style. To supplement that, they were also attracting the best players to the brand and winning trophies. They quickly became arch rivals of their neighbours Orlando Pirates, before becoming the most successful club on the land.

Over the last decade, Chiefs have been a shadow of their former selves on and off the field. The results have not been forthcoming, as they now are in a nine-year trophy draught. Administration wise, it has also been a mess with some terrible signings and coaching appointments. It was then perhaps no surprise when the Nkuna take over links surfaced. According to FARPost, he has since refuted the rumours.

MIKE NKUNA TO TAKEOVER KAIZER CHIEFS?

“It is regrettable that the current statements circulating on social media referencing to intentions by Dr Mike Nkuna to purchase Kaizer Chief are false. He has expressed his reluctance for any administration [role] of the Kaizer Chiefs F.C., thus refuting the assertion to bring in players and new management. Noteworthy Dr Nkuna remains a committed board member of Kaizer Chiefs F.C while his primary focus is on property development.” Said the statement from Nkuna.

Away from football, Nkuna is a founder of 100% black-owned Masingita Group of companies. They are a group that specialises in property development, construction and asset management. It is then perhaps more reason why having to deal with Chiefs matters full time, is not feasible for him.
