Rugby World Cup 2023: These SIX teams have been eliminated

With Rugby World Cup 2023 in full swing, a look at the latest pool standings shows that SIX teams have been eliminated from the playoffs.

With Rugby World Cup 2023 in full swing, a look at the latest pool standings shows that SIX teams have already been eliminated from the playoffs.

NOTE: This is an updated article reflecting the latest team to be eliminated

In Pool A, Namibia finished bottom of the group, winless in their four matches.

The African minnows faced a daunting task having been drawn alongside hosts France, New Zealand, Italy and Uruguay.

Namibia, coached by Allister Coetzee, only scored 37 points in their four matches and conceded 255.

Meanwhile, in Pool B, Romania have been eliminated after heavy defeats in their three matches to date.

The Romanians lost 82-8 to Ireland in their opener and 76-0 to South Africa in their second match.

They then went down 84-0 to Scotland on Saturday, 30 September.

Romania have only scored eight points while conceding 242.

Romania’s final match is against Tonga (8 October) where they will be out to restore some pride.

Tonga were also eliminated from Pool B after their brave defeat to the Springboks on Sunday evening in Marseille.

In Pool C, both Georgia and Portugal are heading home.

Both teams are winless after three matches apiece, but did play to an 18-all draw when they faced one another earlier in pool play.

Finally, in Pool D, Chile have also been eliminated.

Chile lost all four of their pool matches against Japan, Samoa, England and Argentina.

The South American side scored 27 points and conceded 215.

In contrast, TWO sides have already booked their places in the quarter-finals.

Any guesses?

Wales, who have won their three matches to date – and thanks to other results in Pool C – cannot finish outside the top two spots.

In addition, England are assured of finishing top of Pool D.
