Sibongiseni Mthethwa vows to bounce back stronger

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa vows to bounce back stronger after the Afcon tournament – he says the break helped him.

Kaizer Chiefs hard-tackling midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa vows to bounce back stronger after the ongoing AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast.

The former Stellenbosch midfielder, Mthethwa is a notable absentee in coach Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad but wants to do better for Chiefs.

Chiefs, under coach Cavin Johnson, are preparing for the second round of the DStv Premiership season and Mthethwa vows to have a strong come back.

In an interview with Sowetan, Mthethwa believes the break has given him a chance to refresh and hopes to shine for Chiefs after the Afcon recess.

Besides looking to be fresh for Chiefs, Mthethwa says the break allows him to understand his teammates at Naturena after joining in September from Stellies.

“This break helped me to get to know how things are done here and to know the players better because I didn’t have a pre-season with them,” Mthethwa says as he vows to bounce back stronger for Chiefs.

“That helped me a lot because we had a bond as a team during this break and saw things differently.

“Of course, there is pressure here and at other teams, but it won’t be the same because the team still has a problem of winning trophies,” he said.

“We are working hard on that to make sure we help the team win trophies because that’s the only pressure that we have – to win a trophy.

“What I can say about pressure is that it’s everywhere. Wherever you play, you will find pressure because there are always expectations, all the time.”

CHIEFS MIDFIELDER PROMISES A STRONGER RETURN

The 29-year-old KZN-born midfielder, Mthethwa added that he is handling the pressure of playing a Soweto giant well and makes a promise to the fans.

Chiefs will look to challenge for the league and also push to win the Nedbank Cup – Mthethwa vows to give his best for the Glamour Boys.

“What people can expect from us when we return is the way we ended last year, the mentality we had to be able to win games,” added the Chiefs midfielder, Ox Mthethwa.

 “So we want to continue from there to make sure we win games all the time and be consistent to be in the top three.

“We were able to prepare during the break and we have to make sure we continue where we left off.”
