Kaizer Chiefs’s win over Lamontville Golden Arrows has given them a major confidence boost ahead of their meeting with eternal rivals, Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby.

The two teams meet on Saturday afternoon in a Soweto Derby clash at the FNB Stadium.

A first-half strike from 19-year-old Wandile Duba was enough to hand Chiefs their first win of the year against Arrows.

The teenager struck early in the match and it was enough to see Amakhosi comfortably home at the FNB Stadium.

Going into the match, Chiefs needed a win and started the match on a positive note, holding the upper hand in possession and threat.

CHIEFS AND PIRATES TO FACE EACH OTHER IN THE SOWETO DERBY

Duba’s willingness to run into space caused constant problems for the Arrows’ defence, leaving room for Pule Mmodi to drift infield and cause confusion for the opposition.

Amakhosi’s first goal of 2024 came in the 11th minute after 270 minutes of waiting.

Mmodi’s mazy run from right to left saw him lose the ball and win it back immediately in a central position.

AMAKHOSI SECURE CRUCIAL WIN AHEAD OF PIRATES MATCH

He laid it off to Duba, who feinted to wrongfoot his marker and then curled the ball sublimely into the far top corner of flatfooted goalkeeper, Sifiso Mlungwana’s goal.

Chiefs held on for the win and are now level on points with Pirates before the big game on Saturday.

Having failed to find the back of the net in their previous three games, Amakhosi finally ended their drought and winless streak.

A tough challenge awaits them on Saturday when they face the Buccaneers. Amakhosi’s defence looks solid and could make life difficult for Jose Riveiro’s men on Saturday.

Orlando Pirates defeated Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 in their first meeting of the season back in October.
