TABLE MOUNTAIN NATIONAL PARK’S PLANS TO RETAIN VISITORS

The Western Cape provincial governement has given a new safety initiative at Table Mountain National Park a great help in funding.

As reported by Cape Town Etc., MEC Finance and Economic Opportunities, Mireille Wenger announced that as part of a collaboration between the provincial government, the City of Cape Town, SANParks, and other entities, Table Mountain National Park had recently received R4 million in funding.

This funding, Wenger explained, would go towards extending a newly established safety project, which came about after a spate of muggings and attacks in Table Mountain National Park recently.

She said that the R4 million in funds would be used to extend the hours of security patrolling the mountain in order to ensure that hikers who visit the various attractions at sunrise or sunset feel safe.

“The R4m funding will be for the next 18 months to extend the service so that locals and visitors can visit a natural wonder of the world and feel safe. It will be used to extend the hours of the officers to ensure that hikers who wish to visit the mountain for sunset or sunrise hikes are protected. It is important to note that the more tourists we have the more jobs are created.” Wenger said, as per Cape Town Etc.
