The City of Cape Town was recently awarded Blue Flag status for eight of its beautiful beaches by the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa (WESSA).

FISH HOEK BEACH

Situated in the town of Fish Hoek, which is part of the greater Cape Town metropolitan area, Fish Hoek beach is known for its panoramic views of the ocean and nearby hills. The beach is also popular for its calm and relatively warm waters, making it a great spot for swimming. The gentle waves and sandy shoreline make it suitable for families and individuals of all ages.

MELKBOSSTRAND BEACH

Melkbosstrand beach is renowned for its picturesque scenery, featuring golden sands, rolling dunes, and the stunning backdrop of Table Mountain in the distance. The area is relatively unspoiled, providing a tranquil and natural setting for visitors. The name “Melkbosstrand” itself translates to “Milkbush beach” in Afrikaans, referring to the indigenous milkwood trees found in the area.

SILWERSTROOM BEACH

Silwerstroom Beach is situated approximately 60 kilometers north of Cape Town along the R27 West Coast Road. It forms part of the Cape West Coast Biosphere Reserve, an area known for its diverse ecosystems. The area is also relatively undeveloped, offering visitors a more natural and less crowded beach experience compared to some of the more popular beaches closer to Cape Town.
