Watch: Air India’s safety video puts a cultural spin on in-flight instructions
Air India has unveiled its latest inflight safety video in a unique move that seamlessly blends safety instructions with the kaleidoscope of India’s vibrant culture.
India’s national carrier, Air India has released an interesting new video, presenting its inflight safety instructions to passengers before their flights.
Passengers are unlikely to turn their heads away or drift off while this video provides important safety information.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Airlines are required to provide inflight safety instructions to passengers before a flight departs.
Some airline crews handle this by reading out a script or by using an audio recording. At the same time, several staff members might demonstrate the required actions to passengers in the cabin.
Additionally, other carriers might do this using a video that displays the required actions. This depends on the aircraft used to operate a passenger flight.
AIR INDIA VIDEO
Air India has released a new inflight safety instructions video, that uses a kaleidoscope of colour, dance, and music to create an experience for passengers.
The safety video takes passengers on an interesting journey while showing them different elements of Indian culture for each safety instruction.
Traditional Indian dance forms have been used for centuries, as a medium for storytelling and instruction in India.’
VIRTUAL REALITY
Air India’s new presentation uses technology to model and simulate customs and traditions from the country’s diverse cultures. It also transposes images of Air India’s cabin onto various locations in India.
This inflight safety instructions video features eight classical and folk Indian dance forms in which each dance gesture corresponds to a different instruction.
INFLIGHT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
For frequent fliers, inflight safety presentations can sometimes become boring, having heard them before. Hence the need to be different, to capture passengers’ attention.
That said, this is where airlines might try to bring a little humour into the presentation, making fun, attractive or even memorable presentations.
Former South African low-cost carrier Kulula.com was known for using humour in its marketing campaigns as well as during safety presentations. The safety video below contains doses of comedy which Kulula was known for.
This guy, AdrianO, knows his inflight safety instructions so well that he doesn’t even need to read them. He definitely could be on stage at Comedy Central!
