A touching moment of a group of wildlife rangers rescuing a baby elephant from a mud hole has made international news. The event took place on Saturday at Addo National Park in the Eastern Cape, South Africa.

The video was uploaded by Richard Gardiner who was filming from a lookout hide in the early afternoon. He said the rangers were forced to intervene because the incident occurred very close to the main camp.

The baby elephant had apparently become stuck “upside down” while the herd was drinking from the watering hole. He said the young elephant had already been stuck for most of the day.

According to Newsflare, Gardiner said: “The older elephants had been attempting to free it by pushing it with their feet for several hours.

“The elephants were becoming increasingly stressed and their cries for help had brought in a large herd.”

Wildlife TV presenter and Stroop rhino documentary film maker, Bonné de Bod, tweeted: “So so wonderful to see a happy ending for these elephants!! Just love the obvious concern when the calf rejoins…”
