Go Bokke! Springboks win their first World Cup match! Whew!

Jislaaik. It was close. But we won today! South Africa played Wales in their opening match at the World Cup in Wellington, New Zealand…and just won by 17 to 16.

The match started well. Within 4 minutes Francois Steyn had scored a conversion and Morne Steyn converted. 7-0 to the world champions in less than 5 minutes.

Celebrating Springbok win in New Zealand
South African-born Lily Rose, who now lives in New Zealand, celebrated the Springbok's win in style on her hybrid Kiwi/Saffer bike. "She LOVES New Zealand and knows that she is from SA, so we are a house divided!" says her mom Sam.

But then it turned into a nailbiting event as Springbok fans around the world gasped in horror as Wales crept ahead, at one (very long) point leading by 16-10.

But a huge cry of joy (and relief) resounded when Francois Hougaard (replacing Bryan Habana) scored a try, and Morne Steyn converted…with just 15 minutes to go.

Congrats to the team. Go Bokke!!!!
