The South African sports icon first came across Lindeque’s inspirational pay-it-forward video two weeks ago (the video which famously changed the drinking game into a charitable act instead).

For his RAKNomination, Lucas handed out over 200 “Highlights” magazines to children in Grade Three at Ikaneng Primary. He encouraged the children to take the magazines home to share with their brothers, sisters and parents.

Spreading education, opportunity and upliftment is something incredibly important to Lucas, who believes that success like his own comes from being able to recognise and make the most of opportunities when they are presented to you.

Through his organisation – Learning with Lucas – he strives to provide young people with opportunities, skills and a positive winning mentality, so that they are inspired to achieve.

“I love giving back, and to do it in Diepkloof, in Soweto, my hometown, always makes it even more meaningful for me,” said Lucas, who grew up in a family of 11 children.

As is the tradition of the social media game, he has in turn nominated his good friend and former team-mate Mark Fish to a #RAKNomination challenge.

“I think, Tlappie, Mark Fish, will love doing something like this, he has a big heart and is passionate about helping kids,” said Lucas.

“Highlights” magazine is one of the best-read magazines in the USA, renowned for its creative stories, puzzles, crafts, activities and ways of encourage a child’s innate thinking ability and imagination.
